There's no reason to take Two-handed with a mage. You seem to have a problem with reading comprehension. Take an aerothruge(or any school), 2handed and utility scoundrel for adrenalin and cloak and dagger, along with an air staff(or aproprioate element), all those crit bonuses from 2h/scoundrel now apply to hitting people with your entirely elemental melee and all your spells too. Granted mages do get elemental affinity, but good luck staying on your element in some of the fights in this game. The case is similar for all the physical damage dealers, basically any physical skill you increase will increase your weapon damage in some way. If you're playing an archer, your points in Ranged and Warfare will increase your damage, if you put any points in Scoundrel you'll increase your critical hit damage and Huntsman will increase your high ground bonus. So if you're making a fire/earth mage, the Pyrokinetic skill won't increase the damage of your Geomancer spells and vice versa.

On the other hand, if you look at mages, only the school associated with the spell (Warfare for Necromancy) will increase the damage of that spell.
